In the Indian city of Berhampur, doctors removed a miswak stuck in the throat of an 80-year-old man, saving his life.
According to Indian media, the elderly man, Kumaraju Naik, a resident of Nattinga village in Ganjam district, was using a miswak to brush his teeth in the morning when it accidentally got stuck in his throat.
Reports state that after the miswak became lodged, he suffered severe pain. His family first took him to a local health center, where attempts to remove it failed.
Later, the family shifted him to a hospital in Berhampur city, where doctors performed surgery and successfully removed the 9-inch-long miswak from his throat.
Indian media further reported that the miswak had remained stuck in the man’s throat for a whole week before the surgery was carried out.
