Talks are underway between the United States and Afghan officials regarding the deployment of American forces at Bagram Airbase in Afghanistan.
U.S. President Donald Trump, speaking to the media in the Oval Office, said that America should not have left Bagram Airbase. He added that efforts are being made to retake the base and that negotiations with Afghanistan are ongoing concerning the deployment of American troops there.
Earlier, President Trump had said that the U.S. also wants to regain this airbase because it is only an hour away from the location where China develops its nuclear weapons.
According to an American newspaper, consideration is being given to stationing a limited number of U.S. forces at Bagram Airbase, and the negotiations are being led by U.S. special representative Adam Boehler.
It should be recalled that in 2021, during the withdrawal of foreign forces from Afghanistan, the U.S. handed over Bagram Airbase to Afghan authorities after 20 years.
However, President Trump has now announced plans to reclaim the weapons left behind during the withdrawal, as well as Bagram Airbase, and formal negotiations on this matter between the U.S. and Afghanistan have already begun.
